Chalice from Scratch

Believe it or not this chalice was silverware and old gold jewelry when we started.

This wonderful piece is made of solid 22k gold and sterling silver. The metal was first refined from old jewelry and silverware into their separate pure forms. The metal was alloyed into 22k gold and sterling silver then poured into ingots. Some ingots were forged into sheet, others were set aside for casting. The silver components of the base were fabricated through a mix of spinning, raising, forming, and casting, then joined by silver soldering. The cup is solid 22k gold, raised by hand and then planished over a steel form on a spinning lathe. The ornament on the base is chased into the silver form and embellished with solid 22k gold flowers. The ornament on the node and sleeve are solid 22k gold that were chased out of rolled sheet then applied by way of silver solder. The matching paten and base plate were spun from the same silver with the attachment hardware being silver as well. Personalized engravings on the base plate were done by hand.

The carrying case is hand made out of paulownia wood with solid brass hardware. It is upholstered on the interior with velvet and on the exterior with leather.

Who else can sculpt heirlooms into an object full of both old and new meaning?
